Welcome to the Great Training Day on Saturday 5 October 2024!

One of the biggest volunteer training events online, The Red Cross Great Training Day, is coming up. This training event is a great opportunity to learn more about the Finnish Red Cross and our voluntary work. This time the programme includes sessions in three languages: Finnish, Swedish, and English.

Programme in English

Prior to the training, participants are recommended to familiarize themselves with the Finnish Red Cross by taking the Welcome to Our Story online course. The course can be found here: https://www.redcross.fi/frc-history 

9-9:45 Morning Kick-off

The day will start with a session for everyone. We will hear from Red Cross planner Maria Pikkarainen about how the Red Cross’s volunteer activities supporting integration have impacted the integration and sense of inclusion of immigrants.

The Morning Kick-off will be spoken in Finnish and subtitled in Swedish and English.

After the Morning Kick-off, you have the moring and/or afternoon training sessions you selcected during your registration. You can read below more about the trainings coducted in English:

10-12 AM  Pekka Reinikainen: How Bright is the Future of the World?

Content of the course

A well-known English saying goes: The world is my oyster. Now is an opportunity to learn what the world is like, if you understand it as a burger, a Climaburger!

Pekka Reinikainen's lectures in previous training days have received praiseful feedback from the participants, and there have been many hopes for a continuation. With this presentation you will receive a thorough peek into the future of the planet and its inhabitants. So don't miss this opportunity! The lecture is open to anyone interested. This time in English.

Lecturer

Pekka Reinikainen is retired International Advocacy Specialist for the Finnish Red Cross HQ. Directorate-General for Climate Action of the EU Commission has accredited Pekka as one of a dozen or so EU Climate Pact Ambassadors for Finland. He is an active speaker raising public awareness on climate change and its effects.

1-3 PM Introduction to the Finnish Red Cross

Content of the course

Would you like to become a volunteer friend to someone lonely or join one of our first aid groups, for example? There is a wide range of options available, and as a Finnish Red Cross volunteer, you can help in a manner that suits you best – as frequently as you like.  

During this introduction you will hear more about our volunteering activities and the fundamental principles guiding the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. This session will help you understand how you can contribute effectively as a volunteer in Finland. 

To whom? 

The training is an introductory event for new volunteers, people interested in finding out more about the activities of the Red Cross, and those considering becoming volunteers.

After the training

You can join the activities of your local Finnish Red Cross branch and/or participate to task-specific trainings to become a volunteer.
