A new type of Kontti volunteer role is being piloted in the Helsinki and Uusimaa district
Kontti, the Finnish Red Cross secondhand store chain, is piloting a new type of volunteer role during autumn 2025 in the Helsinki and Uusimaa district. In Kontti, volunteers will get to explore retail tasks while also contributing to the Red Cross’s humanitarian work.
The new role will first be piloted at the Merituuli and Galleria Kontti secondhand stores in Espoo. During the autumn, the pilot will gradually expand to other Kontti stores in the capital region, with the goal of eventually introducing the same volunteer role in all 12 stores across Finland.
The Kontti chain and its volunteers are part of the Red Cross’s readiness to respond quickly in emergencies. Integrating volunteer work into Kontti stores strengthens our collaboration and brings volunteer opportunities closer to Kontti’s customer base. The role offers valuable experience in retail and an introduction to the Red Cross’s operations.
Local branches will be contacted by Kontti regarding the new volunteer role, and information will also be shared through the district’s newsletters, website, and social media.

Kontti’s mission is to raise funds for the Red Cross’s aid work by selling donated clothes and goods. The proceeds from Kontti are used to support the Red Cross’s humanitarian work both in Finland and abroad.
The Merituuli and Galleria Kontti stores in Espoo are now offering a new volunteer role where you can work at the cash register and in customer service, organize and decorate the store, and receive customer donations. You’ll gain experience in retail and in the Red Cross’s humanitarian efforts.
