During the Week Against Rasism, the Red Cross awards the Pioneer Against Prejudice recognition to actors who promote humanity and equality.

The Pioneer Agains Prejudice 2026 of the Helsinki and Uusimaa district is journalist Pertti Seppä, who has worked with Selkouutiset for over 30 years.

Pertti has been involved in Yle's Selkouutiset from the very beginning and has done exeptionally long-term and influential work to promote accessible information.

Selkouutiset, news in easy Finnish, began on radio in 1992 at the request of Finns living abroad. In the early 2000s, the target audience expanded to immigrants learning Finnish as a new language. In 2015, Selkouutiset made it to television, and eventually to Yle Areena and online. Today, Selkouutiset serve a wide range of people who benefit from easy Finnish, such as Finnish language learners and people belonging to various disability groups.

We presented the Pioneer Against Prejudice recognition during the Week Agains Racism on 18 March at the district office. When receiving the recognition, Pertti emphasized that he accepts it also on behalf of his team and partners - in other words, the audience. He explained that Selkouutiset has always been created together with its audience, listening to their needs and wishes.
