Have a good start in first aid activities through the Helpers’ Club!
Do you want to learn Finnish in a fun way? Come to the Helpers’ Club to learn first aid skills in Finnish and English!
Helpers’ Club is a group where first aid skills are learned in Finnish. English is used as a support language. Finnish language skills are strengthened by listening, speaking, and interacting with the group. The group becomes a nice bunch where you can also make new friends.
The Helpers’ Club meets once a week. At the end of a season of about three months, the group completes an emergency first aid course.
The group and the emergency first aid course are free for participants. The instructors are volunteers from the Red Cross Helpers’ Club.

From a Helpers’ Club participant to a first aid responder
In the main photo of this page, you see a group of new first aid responders. Among them is Sebastian, who started at the Herttoniemi Helpers’ Club in the autumn of 2023.
Sebastian Rosenthan joined the Helpers’ Club because he wanted to learn Finnish. He found practicing first aid skills fun and very useful.
The warm reception at the Helpers’ Club encouraged Sebastian to attend first aid practices and learn more. He first completed the basic first aid course and then trained to become a Red Cross first aid responder. Now Sebastian teaches first aid skills to others.

Do you want to volunteer at the Helpers’ Club?
Jyrki Koskinen, who has organized Helpers’ Clubs in the Southwest Espoo branch for two years, says that a great team spirit has developed in the Helpers’ Clubs, which has brought a lot of joy to both volunteer leaders and participants.
Helpers’ Club volunteers guide the group using prepared materials. Volunteers do not need previous experience in guiding or first aid. A positive attitude, a desire to encourage the group to participate and learn, and a helpful knowledge of English are sufficient.
If you want new experiences as a Helpers’ Club volunteer, attend the orientation and planning meeting held in Finnish or English:
- Perehdytys Auttajaklubi-toimintaan vapaaehtoisille 23 January, 2025
- Introduction for Helpers’ Clubs’ Volunteers 27 January, 2025
Welcome to join the activities!
