Imren and Maija met through SuomiKamu friend programme and have learned a lot from each other.

- While talking to Maija I started to understand how Finnish people think. Then I had the courage to start talking to people, says Imren who moved to Finland a few years ago.

Imren and Maija got to know each other through SuomiKamu friend programme in Espoo. The programme, run by Red Cross volunteers, is supporting the adaptation of immigrants by finding them Finnish friends.

- When spending time with Imren I have seen all the things that a person who settles into a new environment and language needs to learn. I have learned new aspects of my culture, and moreover I found a new friend with whom it is pleasure to meet.

 - It is lovely that I have a friend to talk to and that she is supporting me. Also, my Finnish language has improved with the help of my Finnsih friend.

Original interview was published on Finnish Red Cross Facebook-page.

SuomiKamu friend programme operates in the Helsinki region and Hyvinkää. You can join the programme by taking part in SuomiKamu introduction course organized by Red Cross local branches.
