Preparedness activities in the Helsinki and Uusimaa district
We are a preparedness organization that supports and complements the work of authorities in sudden accidents and disruptions. In the event of a crisis, we can quickly respond to a request for help.
Functional alert groups are a central part of our preparedness. Their trained volunteers are ready to help around the clock, every day of the year.
Become a volunteer in preparedness activities!
As a volunteer in the Red Cross preparedness, you can train for tasks that interest you. You can also join an alert group and participate in alert missions where your group supports the work of authorities in sudden accidents or disruptions.
Join the activities by creating a volunteer profile in the Oma system. When logged into Oma, you can search for activity groups near you. You can also search for suitable training courses using Oma's event search. More training courses can be found in Vapepa's event calendar.
Many of our local branches have a preparedness group, an on-call first aid group, or a mental support group. Contact your local branch for more information about preparedness activities!
Voluntary rescue service
The voluntary rescue service, coordinated by the Red Cross, or Vapepa, is a network of over 50 organizations and other partners whose alert groups support the authorities in accidents and crisis situations. The expertise of the network's various actors is utilized according to the task. Vapepa's assistance tasks include, for example, searching for missing persons, mental support, first aid, traffic control, and assistance in evacuations.
